Ross survives recall challenge

The Florida primary wasn't the only lopsided election result last night as Las Vegas city councilman Steve Ross beat back a recall challenge from city planning commissioner Byron Goynes:

Incumbent Steve Ross has won in a "blowout," 70 percent to 30 percent, in the special recall election for his Ward 6 seat on the Las Vegas City Council.

With 100 percent of the vote in about 8:13 p.m., Ross beat his challenger, city planning commissioner Byron Goynes, 4,319 to 1,845 votes.

The recall was largely spearheaded by businessman Joe Scala who was denied a waiver to operate his car dealership in Ross' ward. Goynes maintains he had no connection to Scala.

Ross will be up for re-election next year and Goynes — who ran for the seat in 2005 — has expressed interest in a re-match.
